Our aim is to promote and disseminate the island's heritage, culture and Gaelic language.

Urras Dualchas Ratharsair was set up in 1994. Ratharsair means tidal race islands, information important to our sea-faring Norse ancestors. The form rásar-eyjar, tidal race islands, could very easily become rárs-eyjar. Consonant movement is called metathesis and is so frequent as to excite little comment among language experts.

B.Sc Hons Agric Sc (Edinburgh). Retired college lecturer in Science and Technology. Ex trustee and manager at Eilean Bàn Trust (Gavin Maxwell Museum). Raasay resident for 14 years.

Rebecca taught English in Portree High School.  She is a crofter. She has been the Secretary for the society and Trust for almost thirty years.

B.Sc Southampton University. Studied Invertebrate Palaeontology, he is an expert in Jurassic Ammonite Systematics and biostratigraphy; published several scientific papers, including Palaeontographical Society, monograph and discoveries from Raasay.
